UK PM May rejects Brexit customs union compromise

Prime Minister Theresa May has rejected the idea of targeting a customs union with the European Union, dashing hopes that she could shift her Brexit policy to win over the opposition labour party, according to Reuters. 

Last week, labour leader Jemery Corbyn asked May to seek a "permanent and comprehensive UK-wide customs union" and laid out other conditions under which he would instruct his party members to support an exit deal in parliament. 

The EU also urged May to grasp Corbyn's offer, however, PM's office published a reply on Sunday, which showed little appetite for compromise. 

"I am not clear why you believe it would be preferable to seek a say in future EU trade deals rather than the ability to strike our own deal?" May wrote in a three-page letter.
